What does the future hold for Nigel McGuinness after his in-ring return at AEW All In 2024?
AEW
Thirteen years since he last wrestled. Nigel McGuinness returned to the ring at AEW All In 2024, and is now considering what’s next.
During the Casino Gauntlet Match at Wembley Stadium in London on August 25, Fuckin’ In The Bushes rang out in the arena and it had nothing to do with the announcement of Oasis’ return. It was more about the return to the ring of one of Ring of Honor’s greatest champions Nigel McGuinness, thirteen years after his last match. Was it a one-night return or a full-time return to the ring? In any case, he wants to get back in the ring.
In an interview given to UPROXXMcGuinness discusses his return to All In, the fans’ reaction at Wembley and his future.
“It was already incredible last year to come back and announce the world record attendance. But to actually be in the ring. It was a completely different feeling. And that reaction is something I will take with me for the rest of my life.”assure McGuinness. “It gave me an incredible feeling of, I wouldn’t say closure because it feels like it was the last thing I ever did. But it certainly gave me peace and a surreal sense of reality that this was allowed to happen. I’ve had a lot of blessings in my life, but also a lot of obstacles. And the luck that I was given that opportunity – thanks to Tony Khan – meant a lot.”

One last match against Bryan Danielson?
While he doesn’t seem to be considering a full-time return to the ring at the moment, he does have a few names in mind for a final match. And AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson is obviously the first name that comes to mind.
“Bryan is definitely at the top of the list because of our history, there are so many emotions attached to a match with him”McGuinness said. “Zack Sabre Jr. would be a dream match. Adam Copeland would be a dream match. There’s so much great talent, Lee Moriarty was kind enough to get in the ring with me before the Collision shows, and that helped a lot.”
And when asked if he could be the one to take the title from Bryan Danielson and end his career, Nigel McGuinness returns to his Danielson hater persona, the one he already plays on commentary, and doesn’t rule out the idea while attempting a sort of reverse psychology, in case Danielson might hear him.
“Oh, hey, what a story. What a story ending that would be. That would be amazing.” assure Nigel McGuinness. “He’s too smart to put himself in a position where I could beat him to that title. So I don’t see how that could happen. But listen, I also couldn’t see myself walking into Wembley Stadium and getting a bigger reaction than Bryan winning the title. Those things can happen.”
