Werchter Boutique, CORE Festival, Cactusfestival… the stages that blackwave. the past few weeks have been no small feat. The music that the duo already has on their record is certainly there, although nowadays people are mainly looking forward to that long-awaited third album. Jay and Willem went to Los Angeles for this, giving the record the appropriate title No Sleep in LA got. It is still a while to wait for the release, but thanks to “a-okay” in “good day” we already learned that with the successor of ARE WE STILL DREAMING? seems to be going well. The new “perfume” already sounds a bit different than we were used to from the duo.
The latest creation from blackwave. gets off to a nice sultry start, because a sexy bass line is soon thrown over the dreamy synth tune. The duo then does their thing as usual, causing the temperature to rise even higher. “perfume” actually turns out to be the ideal soundtrack for a chill summer day, although this single will not fade into the background any time soon. Thanks to Caleborate, we seem to shift up a gear for a while, although it is mainly the wind and strings that play an important part in this. It is those instruments that provide a wonderful outro, which makes the barrs of the threesome float beautifully towards the end. An extremely successful single from blackwave. and Caleborate, which fits perfectly on a beautiful day like today.
No Sleep in LA will be published on September 9. blackwave. will be playing in the coming months at the Lokerse Feesten (11 augustus), at Jazz Middelheim (12 augustus), in of Former Belgium (October 7), in the Milky Way (October 8) and in The Roma (14 October).
