Nieuw-Dordrecht lock building destroyed by fire

A lockdown control building was destroyed by fire in Nieuw-Dordrecht in Drenthe last night. The building is part of the Willem-Alexander Canal lock.

The fire brigade managed to get the fire under control, but they were unable to prevent extensive damage to the building. There are no reports of injuries, but the damage is extensive. The police have started an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Ten days earlier there was also a fire about 200 meters away. A small boat completely went up in flames, reports said RTV Drenthe. It is not yet clear if the two fires are connected.
