According to the June 2023 report The Gauge of Nielsenstreaming consumption accounted for 37.7% of total US TV usage, a record high for this digital format.
By comparison, viewing cable content accounted for 30.6% of TV usage, while viewing broadcast content accounted for 20.8%.
In June, overall television viewing saw a monthly increase for the first time since January (+2.2% compared to May), mainly due to the increased availability of young viewers. More specifically, TV usage in the 2-11 and 12-17 age groups increased 16.3% and 24.1% respectively from May, with non-traditional TV options (i.e. streaming and video games) accounting for 90% of those increases for both groups.
Of the streaming services independently reported in The Gauge, Paramount+ accounted for 1.0% of the overall television audience during the month. The original series Star Trek : Strange New Worlds broadcast on Paramount+, has generated nearly 1 billion minutes of viewing.
