Krefeld / Mönchengladbach. The summer semester 2021 at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences will initially remain largely digital. However, if the pandemic situation enables more face-to-face events in the course of the next few months, this should be checked and, if necessary, implemented. “With all digital teaching and learning successes: We are and will remain a face-to-face university,” commented University President Dr. Thomas Grünewald.

The examination phase of the 2020/21 winter semester is currently still running. Since some of the exams have been converted to digital, some of them take place in smaller groups with sufficient distance and a security concept on site, the examination phase has been extended accordingly. For the students there was a generous free attempt regulation, which evaluates failed attempts in examinations as not taken.

The summer semester starts differently from department to department. Many of them start lecturing on March 29, while other departments don’t start until after Easter. The Faculty of Economics in Mönchengladbach will start with the first block courses on March 19. The regular start of lectures is April 19th. For the first semester of the Applied Therapy Sciences course, March 22nd is the start of the summer semester.

Almost all departments initially rely exclusively on digital teaching. “We have continuously improved our digital tools over the past twelve months and now offer high-quality teaching via various digital channels,” says Grünewald.

This was made possible above all by the employees of communication and information technology (KIS), the university didactics, the e-learning team, the digitaLe team (media didactics) – and of course the teachers at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences.

The departments of chemistry, ecotrophology and textile and clothing technology plan their laboratory internships on site – in compliance with the given safety regulations.
