Krefeld / Mönchengladbach. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences has been certified as a family-friendly university for the fourth time in succession. The certificate is issued by the non-profit Hertie Foundation. With the family-friendly university audit, universities actively work to make study and working conditions family-friendly.

“Our goal is to continue to support students and employees in reconciling their studies, work and family. In this way we have made great progress in recent years. We are proud to have been certified again as a family-friendly university and see the award as an incentive to continue on this path, ”says Dr. Sandra Laume, Equal Opportunity Officer at Niederrhein University

Since the last audit in 2019, many projects have been implemented or initiated: For example, in Mönchengladbach, with the support of the youth welfare office of the city of Mönchengladbach, a cooperation agreement for ten U3 occupancy places was concluded with the Mummi daycare center on Brucknerallee. A children’s corner was created in the library on the Krefeld-Süd campus, so that children can work alone while their parents are in the library.

The re-auditing is intended to further align teaching, study and research activities in a family-friendly manner and increase the attractiveness of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences as a place to study and work. “We will be holding an ideas competition next year. We successfully implemented the winning concept of the last competition, the family area in the university library, ”says Sandra Laume.
