The general mayor of the Capital, Nicuşor Dan, declared, regarding the triggering of the alert state in Sector 1, that “a lot of time was spent in the discussions to stabilize the problem” regarding the attributions he has regarding the waste. He explained that the responsibilities are divided, those of the mayor general being related to the treatment and storage of waste. “It took a long time to stabilize the problem of the landfill to which Bucharest can take the garbage legally,” he said.
Nicusor Dan was asked, on Friday, in a press conference, what he thinks about the establishment of the state of alert in Sector 1.
“There is a division of responsibilities in terms of waste collection. There is the responsibility of the mayor of the sector for collection and selection, there is the responsibility of the mayor general in terms of treatment and storage. I spent a lot of time in discussions to stabilize the issue. As I know, the General Council last week voted in favor of the Council’s decision to set up that garbage dump. inter-community development, following this decision, the sectors of Bucharest must give their decisions and then go to the Court to set up the association, so that each of us can access European money. These are my responsibilities on waste “, he replied.
The prefect of the Capital, Alin Stoica, announced on Friday that he gave his consent for declaring the state of alert in Sector 1, as a result of the sanitary situation created by not picking up garbage in the context of the conflict between the City Hall and the sanitation operator.
“I sent to the Local Committee for Emergency Situations the agreement for declaring the state of alert”, the prefect transmitted.
The Local Committee for Emergency Situations of Sector 1 requested, on Wednesday evening, the Prefecture of Bucharest to declare the state of alert for a period of 30 days, due to the sanitary situation caused by the non-collection of garbage by Romprest Service SA Company.
Also, the Local Council of Sector 1 was convened, for Friday, at 12.00, in order to discuss the termination of the contract with Romprest. The mayor’s office estimates that approximately 2,691 tons of waste generated by the population, public institutions and economic agents have been accumulated.
