The Government expects a conclusion to be reached in the negotiation with Chevron as soon as possible, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letympiotis said on Tuesday.
Answering a question after the conclusion of the Council of Ministers, about the letter that has recently been sent to the Government by the Chevron company in relation to the development of “Aphrodite”, Mr. Letymiotis said that there have been exchanges of letters between the Republic of Cyprus and the company the last days.
We are in the middle of a negotiation, he said, “and at this stage it is neither useful nor can any further position be made”.
“The field is important both for the company and for the Republic of Cyprus and the presence of a company like Chevron in the Cypriot EEZ is a vote of confidence,” he noted.
Asked if the company is expected to comply with the agreed terms, Mr. Letymiotis said that the Government expects a conclusion to this negotiation as soon as possible in good faith.
