Nicolette says that she and Bas had booked a romantic weekend to London a few years ago when good friend Ronan Keating said goodbye to Boyzone. “Suddenly there was a very loud bang on the door”, Bas remembers. “It was the concierge who asked, ‘What the hell are you doing? At the bar, the water is running down through the ceiling.’ As it turned out: our bath – one of those chic freestanding ones without a water stop – had completely overflowed.”
According to Nicolette, the entire bathroom was flooded: “When we went out an hour later, we saw that part of the lobby had been cordoned off because the water was dripping down there.”

During a trip to Bali it also went completely wrong and Bas contracted toxoplasmosis, an infectious disease caused by a parasite. “We were going for a walk in a monkey forest, and I wanted to act tough for Lola, so I brought a really big bunch of bananas. So then I was attacked by a whole crew of monkeys, until bleeding,” says the Instagram mogul.
Bas immediately paid a visit to the hospital, where he underwent a severe course of several days in which he was constantly given injections. Once back in the Netherlands he became ill after all. Bas: “I got bumps and only wanted to sleep. I was very stressed, but it turned out: I had toxoplasmosis… from a wrong satay that I had eaten at Saté Bali.”

From now on Bas and Nicolette will simply stay close to home. In Amsterdam, for example. This year the duo will again provide the Amsterdam Summer, and they are very happy with that.
