In an article in Le Parisien published on April 3, 2021, Nicoletta spoke about her childhood and in particular the death of her mother, when she was only 20 years old. A blow for the singer who had, at the time, attempted his life.
She’s back with the release of a book, Soul sister, which brings together fifty years of performing through photos and memories. Confined while waiting to be able to join her huge property on the shores of Lake Geneva, Nicoletta spoke with Le Parisien about the release of this book, which begins in the most poignant way. “My mom, Jeanne, suffered from mental retardation and my father, her childhood friend, abused her innocence at a ball on July 14“, tell the first lines of Soul sister. It is at the age of 8 that the singer discovers the identity of her father: the neighbor opposite. Raised by her grandmother, Nicoletta keeps fond memories of her mom, was “always laughing, like a child “. But at the age of 20, when she left her native Haute-Savoie to try her luck in Paris, the worst happened. Her 40-year-old mother dies of cancer. “The worst injustice“says Nicoletta, before adding:”She was leaving at 40, a victim of cancer, after being mocked all her life.“ Collapsed, the young woman then commits a suicide attempt, the day after her mother’s funeral. She swallows two boxes of painkillers and has an 8 day coma. An experience from which she comes out changed, as after “a second birth“.
Mamy blue: this title homage of Nicoletta to her mother
At the head of flagship titles such as Where the Sun is or Fio Maravilla, Nicoletta will however record her biggest success with Mamy Blue, in which she pays homage to her “Dear Mum”. “I left one summer evening / Without saying a word, without kissing you / Without a look at the past, the past (…) I will never come back / In this village that I loved / Where you rest forever now“, recount the words of the song, released in 1970.
