GLOSS | Actually, I’m a patient, calm person. But there are three things that make me lose my nerve very quickly: packaging that doesn’t open, technology that doesn’t work the way I want, and simple things that are done a thousand times that always hook and take far too long, if you are in a hurry.

Region. I mustn’t even think about it, then my blood will boil again! Come on, you know it too! You just need to send out an urgent email that someone is waiting for and then Windows will download a damn update! Right now! And that takes? and takes?? and the computer pays itself a beard when you finally get to the restart. And there is nothing you can do but stare at the screen and feel your last nerve grumble.

Or you have the cell phone to your ear and suddenly only hear ?? krsccccchhhh ?? trzzzzz ?? Hi!? ?? brrrrrrrrrrffff ?? hello ?? … beep, beep, beep ???? Seriously, the network is better in every backyard in the Romanian wasteland than in the Westerwald! I can hardly count the dead spots that sweeten every car trip! Yeah, I know a car isn’t a mobile phone booth, but is that a reason to sabotage any connection?

I can feel myself getting impatient and wobbly. There is even a name for it: nomophobia! Derived from “No-Mobile-Phone-Phobia” or the ?? fear of not always being available ??. Seriously? Has it come to that?

When did we get used to this life rhythm of ephemera and calculate everything in seconds and clock frequencies? Do we all just have the attention spans of white mice and do we need the commercial breaks to take a deep breath? Do I have to call my girlfriend for future calls? when the network is there of course! ?? Read out PR texts in between so that I can reset my brain? And the lockdown doesn’t slow me down a bit, it just gets worse! Now the excuse is “Sorry, I’m on my way, just can’t!” yes not anymore, because everyone knows that I’m at home anyway and that the cat is at most involved in the home office. Argh !!

Okay, slow down, I’m not upset about anything again. And you know what I’m going to do now, don’t you? Mobile off! Laptop closed! Tablet in the drawer! TV plug out! I detoxify myself from being always online and always available. Off to Lent!

With that in mind, stay healthy!
Your Nicole
