Arsenal confirmed on Saturday that flop signing Nicolas Pépé’s contract is being terminated – after four years. The Ivorian, who joined as a record purchase for over 800 million kroner from Lille in the summer of 2019, was during the past season on loan at French Nice, and will play with Trabzonspor in the Süper Lig in Turkey in the future.
Even though Pépé has now left, Arsenal cannot yet forget the giant deal with Lille in 2019.
According to the English newspaper The Independent, Arsenal still need to send money to the Ligue 1 club, as the full transfer fee from 2019 has not yet been paid. In total, it is said to be ten million pounds, roughly 139 million Swedish kronor, which the London club needs to pay in the future.
When clubs do business, it is common for them to split payments for players over several years, which is also reported to have been the case with Pépé.
Pépé accounted for 27 goals and 21 assists in 112 games with Arsenal.
