Nick Schilder is happily married with three children, but admits he sometimes gets into fights. Problems arise nine times out of ten due to his own drive to work. So says the singer Wonderful worldappearing in stores Wednesday.
“We even fight sometimes,” says Schilder of his marriage to Kirsten Hofstee. “Only we are very direct, which quickly clears the air.”
The 39-year-old singer has asked too much of himself before, so he was close to burnout. Schilder: “At the moment, now that Nick & Simon is stopping and I’m busy with my solo career, I need a lot of time to myself again. Fortunately, thanks to that burnout, we’ve become sharp on this and try to prevent each other from losing.
“It remains a continuous learning process for me,” continues the singer. “I know that time with family and the harmony and tranquility that comes with it is the healthiest fuel to be able to perform again later.”
“I really need to take a critical look at myself”
Schilder says he and his wife are constantly trying to find a balance. “Sometimes I can let go for a few weeks in terms of work and discuss all the jobs in advance with Kirsten. On the other hand, after such a busy time, I plan a few days off for the family.”
Now that Nick & Simon has stopped, Schilder expects 2023 to be a “tropical year.” “I have to start all over again as a budding solo artist. At this stage I really have to look at myself critically. If something goes wrong between us, nine times out of ten it’s my fault, because it always has to do with my schedule and the my guide.”
“I’m also a real man who sometimes doesn’t feel like talking after a long day and whose mind is completely elsewhere when his partner says something. Don’t think it’s any different with me, though.”
