Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has revealed he received insults on social media and death threats after his semi-final elimination in Houston. On Saturday, Kyrgios suffered a straight-set loss to American Reilly Opelka in the semifinals of the tournament in Houston.
After the game, an Instagram user who goes by the name “xc13” messaged Kyrgios: “You f****** dead watch your back. Kyrgios posted the screenshot of the threat to his Instagram Story and captioned it, “Nice threats my g. »
Unfortunately, gamblers being abused after losses have become commonplace, as angry bettors find it difficult to control themselves after losing their money. However, nothing can justify abuse and death threats.
Kyrgios loses after a glaring missed call.
At 5-5 in the second set, Kyrgios had a 30-15 in his game when the chair umpire missed an obvious Opelka out.
Kyrgios lost the point and immediately started venting his frustration. In the next point, a livid Kyrgios committed an unforced error which gave Opelka a break point. Kyrgios continued to fume and he lost the game after being hit with a point penalty.
In the next match, Opelka served for a 6-3 7-5 victory. “F***! F****** out! How do you not call him? This is an absolute joke,” Kyrgios shouted on the pitch. After the game, Kyrgios asked the chair umpire: “Do you feel bad? I don’t think you feel bad.”
During the change of ends after the 11th game of the second set, the chair umpire appeared to admit to Kyrgios that he had missed a decision. “Haha again…it all falls on me. Referees seem to make these mistakes a little too often.
Many players seemed dissatisfied with their performance this week in Houston. More punishment? New potential arbiters? Semi final, ‘I missed the mark’ on clay at 5-5 in the second set,” Kyrgios wrote on Twitter after the game.
It was the first clay tournament of the season for Kyrgios, and at the same time the last, since he is expected to return to competition at the end of the grass season.
