The Masters 1000 main draw in Miami brought one of the most interesting first rounds to life in recent months. Emil Ruusuvuori, one of the youngest players in the top 100, challenged seventeen-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, a student of Juan Carlos Ferrero.
The Finn managed to beat his opponent with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, but only a few points decided the game. “The difference between the two of us was really subtle today,” Ruusuvuori said at a press conference.
“He had some big chances in the third set. In general, we both had our chances. I was able to catch up and somehow win. It was a very difficult game. He played very well and I’m glad I moved on.
I was faced with a very young and very talented man. A very good player who we will definitely hear from in the future. Despite its young age, it has so much power that it can cause serious harm to you.
But somehow I managed to win today. “In the second round, Ruusuvuori will face Alexander Zverev (number three seed), who won the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco last week.
Kyrgios doesn’t like Alcaraz’s style of play
If the game between Ruusuvuori and Alcaraz found an important public reaction, someone did not appreciate the style of play between the two players.
Nick Kyrgios, who has initially chosen not to leave Australia to compete in tournaments around the world, wanted to share his opinion on the game and, in particular, Alcaraz’s tennis. After watching the game, a fan paid homage to Ruusuvuori and Alcaraz by posting on Twitter, “We’ll see a lot of this get-together over the next decade.”
The Australian’s answer was not long in coming and dealt his colleagues a heavy blow. “Damn it, it’s going to be deadly boredom in this case,” wrote Kyrgios, commenting on the user’s post.
