Nick de Vries "Age and history don't count for F1 debut"[F1-Gate.com]

Nick de Vries will be a late flowering F1 driver at 28 when he joins AlphaTauri F1 full-time in 2023, but he brags that age doesn’t matter when he makes his F1 debut.

F2 and Formula E champion Nick de Vries finished in the points with Williams at Monza as a replacement for the ailing Alex Albon.

Nick de Vries, who knocked on F1’s door after several years of driving tests, was able to win a full-time F1 seat at Alpha Tauri in 2023 thanks to his performance in the F1 Italian GP.

Nick de Vries will turn 28 before the start of his debut F1 2023 season. An unusual age for an F1 rookie, he is more than a decade older than fellow countryman Max Verstappen when he made his Grand Prix debut.

But in the F1 podcast Beyond The Grid, De Vries pointed out that every driver’s journey to the top is different and took years to cope with the decisive demands of his first F1 race. He explained that it was helpful.

“Everyone goes their own way and I think it doesn’t really matter how old you are or how you got here. In the end I think it’s about having the opportunity at the right time,” said Nick De Vries.

He admits there were times when he thought his F1 dream would never come true until he had the surprise chance to shine in the spotlight at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix.

“Personally it was a roller coaster ride, but now that I have the opportunity, I feel better. There have been times when I thought it was unlikely that I would make my dreams come true. At the same time, I never gave up. really”.
