On Saturday 6 May, King Charles (74) was officially crowned king, together with his wife Queen Camilla (75). The ceremony took place in Westminster Abbey in London.
– They are very angry
Over 2,000 guests witnessed the historic event, including friends and family of the royal family.
The Australian rocker Nick Cave (65) was also among those present. In a new interview in the podcast «Ways to Change The World» he reveals that it was only out of pure curiosity, and not out of political motivation.
Further in the podcast, the artist says that the coronation ceremony did not turn out quite as he had imagined.
– I turned up to the coronation out of pure curiosity and found it all extremely interesting, to say the least, because I thought I would feel things when I went there.
Creates wild theories
He continues:
– But I didn’t know that I would feel them in such an extreme way, and there were conflicting feelings. Sometimes I was extremely bored, and other times I was completely overwhelmed by the ceremony – and extremely moved by the music.
In particular, Cave was moved by the coronation hymn “Zadok The Priest” by George Frideric Handels, which he described as “something from outer space”.
Taken at face value: – Boring
The 64-year-old has previously written on his personal blog that he is neither a monarchist nor a royalist, but that he still finds many of the royal events interesting.
When asked by a fan why he wanted to go, he reminisced about the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, which stirred up a lot of emotion. He caught himself crying.
– I’m just fascinated by that kind of thing – the bizarre, the uncanny, the confusingly spectacular, the awe-inspiring, he explained at the time.
