In addition to Cassidy, for whom it is the second pole of his Formula E career after Rome, ex-champion Jean-Eric Vergne will start from the front row in Saturday’s race. In Superpole, Cassidy was 0.161 seconds faster than Vergne after finishing fourth and Vergne second in the qualifying group stage.
Alex Lynn (Mahindra) and Maximilian Günther (BMW-Andretti) start from the second row, while Sebastien Buemi (Nissan-e.dams) only managed to land fifth in the Superpole after setting the fastest time in the group phase. The Swiss driver shares the third row on the grid with Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche).
Championship leader Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) was the slowest of the 24 drivers in the group stage of qualifying. He will start the first of the two races this weekend from the very back of the grid.
Sam Bird: Crash im Training, Kollision im Qualifying
Jaguar driver Sam Bird, who had a crash in free practice, did not finish more than 20th on the grid in qualifying. Just before the pit lane closed, he managed to send Bird off in the repaired car. A collision between him and Oliver Rowland (Nissan-e.dams) did not help. This caused a red phase in qualifying group 2 and was examined by the commissioners.
Four years ago, Bird had won both races in the first edition of the New York E-Prix in the service of his former employer Virgin.
Felix da Costa praises New York street circuit because of “many variables”
By the way, Antonio Felix da Costa, last year’s champion and currently third in the overall standings, really likes the fact that the Brooklyn Street Circuit now has an anything but perfect track surface.
“I love it. There are just a lot of variables that make it more difficult,” says Felix da Costa in an interview with our English-speaking sister platform ‘Motorsport.com’ and points out that “negative energy does nothing”.

Instead of driving on “tracks like Budapest or the Red Bull Ring, which once had a lot of character, but have now completely lost it”, the Formula E defending champion enjoys less than perfect courses like the street circuit in New York much more .
“Budapest used to have a lot of bumps, cracks in the track and different surfaces. Nowadays, however, the track is reminiscent of a computer game. That’s why I love going to places that have character, like this one,” says Felix da Costa.
Race 1 at the double header of Formula E 2021 in New York will start at 10:30 p.m. converted into CEST. Race 2 will take place on Sunday at 7.30 p.m. CEST.
