“In the end it was my mistake, but the radio broadcast on TV was a little behind the reality,” Latifi told the media after qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.

“It was all my fault, but the engineer gave me some instructions. I should have done another round, but I had to box at the last minute. I looked up and saw a turn, and of course it wasn’t the turn. To the right!”

“But I hadn’t really done a full lap yet and was still getting used to the track, so I took a bend. It was basically a right turn, so I didn’t notice right away. It was a tight bend and the car continued. to go straight with understeer.

“I immediately went to the radio and said ‘oh, what’s going on over there?’, But then I realized that that was the wrong turn, a very next turn.

“It was my mistake. Funny mistake! But the message on the radio is a little distorted.”

It was certainly a rare mistake, but at least Nicholas Latifi seems capable of laughing at it.

“I was teased a bit by my coach, but it wasn’t harmful, it wasn’t offensive,” said Latifi.

Nicolas Latifi finished ninth in the final and scored his first points of the season. The strategy of switching to an intermediate as soon as the safety car retired was a success.

“It was quite difficult in the first part with red flags and delays. Making the right decision to return to the pits immediately to go to Inter was important to jump the car in front,” commented Latifi.

“In the end I struggled a lot with the front tire, but I’m very happy to be able to hold on and score my first points of the season. All in all, I’m really happy for the team and it’s a very good result for morale. “
