Nicholas in Corona times: pick up boots with mask | NDR.de – news

Status: December 6th, 2020 4:12 p.m.

Flying visit with a mask, the boots go to the children on the skateboard. In Medelby, a lot has been thought of so that the children do not have to do without St. Nicholas despite Corona.

Lennart is excited. Nicholas asked him for a poem. He now says: “Dear Nicholas, don’t look at me so angrily, I’ll always be good, put your rod in your pocket!” Lennart doesn’t have to be afraid of the rod – Santa didn’t have it with him. But a well-filled boot with all kinds of goodies. “A chocolate Santa Claus, children’s bars, a ball and a tangerine!” Says the boy happily. Lennart can now take an apple with him. Then he leaves the Dkörpershuus in Medelby in the Schleswig-Flensburg district via the terrace and the next children are allowed in.

The idea came from the parish in Medelby

In total, Santa Claus distributed 83 boots in Medelby alone. Julia Christiansen from the parish in Medelby had already thought about how to organize a pandemic fair in Corona times. The principle: the children handed in their boots to be filled one day before Santa Claus. “I had seen that there should be a similar project in Schafflund. I then presented it to Medelby and the neighboring communities. They all thought it was good and supported me,” says the young woman.

149 boots were handed in

The children brought a total of 149 boots from Medelby and the three neighboring communities. Julia Christiansen and Susanne Richert from the family center took care of the filling. “In addition, we have attached a number to each boot. So that the children go home with the right boots,” says Julia Christiansen with a smile. The children are then only allowed to go to St. Nicholas with their siblings or individually – and with a mask.

Boots come rolled up on a pink skateboard

Of course, the children are not allowed to get too close to St. The minimum distance must be observed. That’s why the boots have to come to the children in a Corona-compliant way: on a pink skateboard. Nicholas pushes that towards the little ones with a little kick of his black boots. And they are very happy that the man with the long white beard came to their village despite Corona. “It’s great that he’s not in quarantine. Otherwise Nikolaus would have had to be out!”, Says one of the children.

Shining children’s eyes are the reward

Nikolaus, who is called Wilfried Bossen in real life, is happy that the gift giving in Dgenössshuus worked out despite the pandemic. “We are very grateful that the family center made this possible, that we were able to bring joy to the children in this way. And the bright children’s eyes, that’s the reward for the job you do here,” says the volunteer Nicholas.

Bright spot in the pandemic

The Möller family is also happy about the Santa Claus campaign in the parish of Medelby. “We are getting along quite well at the moment. The children go to school, my husband and I work. But of course we are happy about this campaign here,” says Levke Möller. She is standing in line with her husband and their two sons Lasse and Momme in front of the bodshuus. Six-year-old Lasse is particularly looking forward to the sweets. Is he wondering whether he will get the right boot? “Nah! It’s got our number on it!” He says confidently.

With the citizens’ bus to the neighboring communities

After a good hour, Santa Claus handed out all of the boots to the children in Medelby. Then he shoulder his burlap sack, gets into the snow-white citizens’ bus and makes his way to the neighboring communities – to make even more children happy there.
