Nice gesture from Ghost of Tsushima fans; torii gate on the island has been restored

Sucker Punch spared no expense to portray the island of Tsushima in their latest game – Ghost of Tsushima – as faithfully as possible, and the result speaks volumes. The game managed to garner a lot of praise from the players, so much so that they are now aware of what is going on on the real island.

The island was hit by a typhoon earlier this year, which damaged one of the so-called torii gates of Tsushima. These gates are known to players of the game because they lead to special Charms that you can wear. However, one of the local priests – Yuichi Hirayama – did not give up and started one Campfire campaign to use the donations to repair the damage.

The asking price was five million Japanese yen (converted and rounded approx 40,000) and with the help of Ghost of Tsushima fans, more than four times that amount has now been raised. Respect for the dedicated fans! See below two photos of the torii gate before and after the typhoon.
