Nice obtains a grant from the Interministerial Fund for the Prevention of Delinquency for the deployment of 175 additional emergency call points. It amounts to 835,200 euros, i.e. 80% of the total amount. The rest being the responsibility of the city. Planned in three phases, the installation of these 175 stations will be carried out from Monday December 21. The assembly should be installed at the end of first quarter 2021. Everyone remembers the role that this system played during the terrorist attack on Notre-Dame Basilica on October 29. Thanks in particular to the triggering of the emergency call terminal on avenue Jean Médecin by a witness, the Municipal Police had succeeded in stopping the terrorist’s murderous race in less than 4 minutes. Hence the wish to Christian Estrosi, mayor, to expand the system and install 175 new emergency call points in front of all private and public schools in the city.
The first 16 emergency call stations were installed a year ago on the most frequented sites in the city. Directly connected by cameras and microphone to the Urban Supervision Center, easy to use and available in 3 languages, they were triggered more than 600 times in 12 months, allowing in particular several arrests for domestic violence, theft with violence, hit-and-run and loss of child.
“The deployment of 175 new terminals in front of each of the city’s public and private schools, unanimously validated by the city council on Monday, December 14, should make it possible to bring even more security around the schools” highlighted Christian Estrosi. “It is an additional and adapted tool allowing municipal police officers to carry out their protection missions.”
