Since they killed his son in a Spanish nightclub, Father Luigi has been counting the months. More than 41 have passed and still justice has not been done, he says. A murderer, who this time to define presumed seems too much, locked in a jail on the border with France. His name is Rassoul Bissoultanov, a 28-year-old Chechen with a criminal record for violence. He was just over 24 when, at 2.51am on 12 August 2017 in the Lloret de Mar nightclub, he killed Niccol Ciatti, 22, a Florentine boy with a martial art blow to the temple.

The aggression and the coup de grace filmed with a smartphone
Niccol was attacked by a group of Chechens and, stunned, he remained on his knees in front of hundreds of boys who watched the scene motionless. The coup de grace was filmed by a smartphone. Indisputable evidence thanks to which the Spanish magistrates had no doubts in accusing Bissoultanov of voluntary murder. But the indictment has not yet been decided – Luigi Ciatti despairs – and if the trial is not held by 12 August the killer will be released from prison and the risk of becoming a fugitive is very high. Seven months are few to start the trial with all the bureaucratic requirements, such as notifications to witnesses. The pandemic then risks complicating everything. Two other Chechens, suspected of the attack, are on the loose. They live in Strasbourg where they asked for asylum – continues Ciatti – but we do not know exactly where they are and if they will present themselves at the trial.

Scandicci is the good child of all
Luigi Ciatti, 61, employed in an RSA in Florence, not only. At his side are his wife Cinzia and daughter Sara, 22, soon a degree in Law, but also the citizens of Scandicci, where he lives, and the Florentines of the San Lorenzo market where Niccol worked and was everyone’s good child. And now the government is also on the field. Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio replied to the request for help from the mayor of Scandicci: I gave instructions to our Embassy in Madrid to intervene with the Spanish authorities, urging a quick conclusion of the criminal proceedings. Minister Bonafede sent a similar letter to his Spanish counterpart.

That hellish journey
When they killed his son, in Spain for a few days’ vacation with friends, Luigi was in Trentino with his wife. At 5 am the phone vibrates – he remembers -. I wake up and see a number I don’t know. a friend of my son from Spain. With a trembling voice he tells me that Niccol is in the hospital but he doesn’t know how he is. Wake up my wife, we decide to reach Girona by car. A hellish journey. Fourteen endless hours – continues Luigi -. I am able to call the hospital and speak to the doctor who treats our son. He tells me that in the ICU and that he is stable. But then he asks me what time we will arrive. I understand that if my wife and I want to see Niccol alive for the last time we have to hurry. When we arrive, two policemen welcome us with tears in their eyes. Niccol has a flat encephalogram and the doctors are waiting for us to pull the plug. Ciatti convinced that the investigations were superficial especially for the other two Chechens. There are testimonies that they too participated in the murder – he explains -. Yet they are free and perhaps even unavailable. But the greatest torment was that he realized that his son could be saved if only that place had observed the law that required the hiring of two security guards always present in the room. Instead there were only bouncers outside, who arrived late.
