Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega on Monday, during the XI Extraordinary ALBA-TCP Summit, rejected the position of the governments of Brazil and Colombia on the presidential elections in Venezuela, and their failure to recognize the victory of President Nicolás Maduro at the polls after the people of this country elected him by a majority in a sovereign manner.
Ortega said that “the gringos will never accept the government that the Bolivarian people elected and decided on” and that they are deeply hurt by the defeat they have suffered in Venezuela.
He considered that the Brazilian government wants to become the representative of the White House’s interests in the region. He explained that this is why Nicaragua broke relations with Brazil. He valued that it is a large country, a power, and made it clear that Nicaragua is a small nation but has something that is greater than that: dignity, defense of sovereignty, he said.
The way you have behaved, Lula, towards the legitimate President of Venezuela is shameful, repeating the slogans of the Yankees, of the Europeans, of the servile, traitorous and groveling governments of Latin America, he said.
“If you want me to respect you, respect me, Lula. If you want the Bolivarian people to respect you, respect the victory of President Nicolás Maduro and stop groveling,” he added.
Regarding Colombia, he said: “Poor Petro. I see him competing with Lula to see who will be the leader who will represent the Yankees in Latin America. Petro does not have the strength that Brazil has. He is the giant. With the government that Lula has, he is not a good giant.”
This maneuver has already failed for the United States. Imperialism is deeply hurt by this defeat. There is no turning back. Nicolás is the legitimate president, continuing the battle of Chávez and Bolívar.
Given this certainty, he urged everyone to prepare themselves by all means and not rule out an attempt at an armed invasion of Venezuela or an attempt to organize and sustain a civil war. He called attention to the aggressiveness of the Colombian right with respect to the Bolivarian Revolution.
He said that in that case, the challenge of such a battle would be much greater given the possibility that they would try to involve drug traffickers, paramilitaries and Colombian military. If that happens, they will be able to count on the solidarity of the Nicaraguan revolutionaries, he said.
