After concluding the weekly meeting of the Production, Consumption and Trade System, comrade Iván Acosta, Minister of Finance and Public Credit, announced that they addressed issues related to the diversification of the country’s productive basket with a view to its increase to advance in foreign trade.
In this sense, the advances in the national strategies for the production of honey, fruits, vegetables and cultivation of bower, as well as biodiversity, were addressed.
“These three issues have to do with new products or products that were already being developed, which are being promoted by Meffca and Marena and support from IPSA ”, indicated the minister.
He stressed that on the subject of honey 6,302 colleagues have been trained, and there are 3 thousand 621 protagonists who are in technological innovation to improve beekeeping, management of apiaries and improvements in labeling and bottling.
In addition, the first 174 protagonists have been capitalized to improve their productive capacities and 16 departmental honey fairs have been held, which has had an impact on the economy of almost 1 million córdobas.
The Minister of Finance pointed out that in Nicaragua there are 1 thousand 508 beekeepers registered with 1 thousand 882 apiaries. Of these, 87.3 are small producers, 10.5 are medium and 2.2 are large.
“We hope that it continues to advance, increasing its productivity, its production and already this year, in exportable terms, it has grown 78% as of February, compared to 2020 “Acosta assured.
Regarding the production of non-traditional products, it is diversifying on the farms with the production of calalas, chayote, vanilla, pitahaya, spinach, paste and beans.
203 thousand 693 protagonists have been trained, 37 thousand 577 have been trained, they have been capitalized through the delivery of supplies and financing, 35 thousand 463 have received technical support and two thousand in the marketing phase, 28 thousand 360 families have been assisted in the diversification of production, 15,958 families have received technologies such as irrigation systems, inputs, fertilization, among others.
In addition, Meffca has strengthened 21 technology capacity development centers, which have reproduced 358,423 fruit and vine plants. 490 enterprises in the field have also been capitalized in the production, transformation and commercialization of products and by-products.
It also reported that there is an increase in 40% more breeding farms than 2020.
