Nicaragua and Russia are currently promoting cooperation in nuclear medicine through the project to build a center of this type here, whose main specialization will be in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
During the Atomexpo 2024 International Forum in the Russian city of Sochi, representatives of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding that outlines the roadmap to develop cooperation in this medical specialty, the El 19 web portal reported.
The document was signed by the general director of health services of the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health, Óscar Vásquez, and on the Russian side by the general director of the state corporation “Rosatom Health Technologies”, Ígor Obrubov.
According to the Nicaraguan official, the Nuclear Medicine Center will make it possible to reach a qualitatively new level in the diagnosis and treatment of socially significant diseases and expand access to modern nuclear medicine technologies for doctors and patients in his country.
For his part, the director of Rosatom commented that his corporation takes a comprehensive approach when solving tasks in the field of healthcare.
“Its activities include the production of isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals, the development and production of high-tech medical equipment, and the construction of medical infrastructure facilities,” he explained.
He added that they are pleased to collaborate with Nicaragua in expanding opportunities and access to nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes to preserve and improve health.
