“NHS Lincolnshire Urges Those with Weakened Immune Systems to Get Covid-19 Spring Vaccination”

NHS Lincolnshire is encouraging people aged five or over with weakened immune systems to come forward for their Covid-19 spring vaccination. They are also reminding parents and guardians of the availability of bookable appointments for children aged five to 11 and 12 to 15 at vaccination centres in Lincoln and Wainfleet. This week, a number of pop-up vaccination sessions for first and second doses for five to 17-year-olds are also being held. To book an appointment at these pop-ups, individuals can call 01522 301940 weekdays between 10am and 2pm.

Since the spring vaccination programme started on April 17, over 63,000 spring vaccinations have been given, with over 55,000 being administered to people aged 75 or over. “We’re delighted with progress to-date and overall we’re on track to vaccinate everyone eligible by June 30,” said Julie Humphreys, Head of Clinical Services at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust. However, of the three groups eligible for the spring vaccination, those with weakened immune systems represent the lowest uptake so far. Out of around 18,000 people in the county who are eligible, so far only around 4,500 individuals have come forward for their vaccination.

Individuals with a weakened immune system include those who have had or have a blood cancer, an organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplant, HIV infection, a genetic disorder, certain medications that increase the risk of infection, or a long-term immunosuppressive treatment for conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or inflammatory bowel disease.

It is vital for individuals with weakened immune systems to get vaccinated as they are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from Covid-19. Vaccines are crucial in protecting not just the individual, but also the wider community by reducing the spread of the virus and avoiding the emergence of more dangerous variants.

It is important for everyone, regardless of their health status, to get vaccinated in order to end the pandemic. The more people who are vaccinated, the harder it will be for the virus to spread and mutate. The vaccines currently available in the UK have been shown in clinical trials to be highly effective in preventing Covid-19, hospitalisation, and death. It is a safe and effective way to protect oneself and others in the community.

While vaccines are a key tool in the fight against Covid-19, it is still important to practice good hygiene and follow the government guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus. This includes washing hands regularly, wearing masks in indoor public spaces, practicing social distancing, and getting tested if experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19.

In conclusion, NHS Lincolnshire is urging people with weakened immune systems to come forward for their Covid-19 vaccination, as they are at a higher risk of getting seriously ill from the virus. It is important for everyone, regardless of their health status, to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others from the virus and help end the pandemic. While vaccines are highly effective, it is still important to follow hygiene and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.
