The Washington Capitals did it again against the Philadelphia Flyers by signing a second victory in 24 hours at the expense of John Tortorella’s men on Wednesday, winning 6-3.
The Flyers, however, sold themselves dearly by heating up the Capitals at the end of the game, who had taken a four-goal lead at one point in the clash.
Tuesday, the Capitals won by a score of 4-1 over these same Flyers.
Washington has won five of its first six games this season while the Flyers suffered a fifth loss in seven games.
Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov scored a goal, his second of the season, and an assist. His goal in the third period brought his team within one goal. He was also an accomplice on the net for Travis Konecny during a power play in the middle period.
The Russian is off to an excellent start to the season with three goals and four assists in seven games.
Michkov, however, attempted a daring move in the second period with a Michigan-style goal attempt that ultimately backfired. Seconds after missing the opportunity because his stick broke, Nic Dowd went to score for the Capitals, who took a 2-0 lead.
Washington scored three goals in the second period. This is already the fourth time in six games that the Capitals have scored so many goals in a single engagement.
Connor McMichael scored two goals in 3:12 of the second period. McMichael collected at least one point in a fourth consecutive game.
Quebecer Pierre-Luc Dubois had a three-point evening with a goal and two assists. His first goal with the Capitals was scored into an empty net. He has a total of five passes in his new environment.
Alex Ovechkin also found the back of the net, a goal scored into an empty net moments after Dubois’ goal in similar circumstances. His 855th career goal brings the Tsar 39 goals closer to the ultimate mark which belongs to Wayne Gretzky.
Taylor Raddysh scored the other goal for the Capitals.
Rasmus Sandin and Dylan McIlrath were accomplices on two goals each for the Capitals.
Owen Tippett got the other goal for the Flyers. Jamie Drysdale, for his part, obtained his first two assists of the season.
Logan Thompson faced 29 shots in front of the Capitals cage while Ivan Fedotov was tested 24 times.
