NHL – The “Three Stars” of the week

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavidleft winger for the Dallas Stars Mason Marchment and Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy have been named the NHL “Three Stars” presented by GEICO for the week ending November 17.

McDavid became the fourth-fastest player (659 games) and fourth-youngest (27 years, 306 days) in NHL history to reach the milestone of 1000 pointstotaling 3-5-8 in three games to propel the Oilers (9-7-2, 20 points) to a 2-0-1 week. He participated in all four Edmonton goals (1-3-4), including an assist on the victorious goal of Leon Draisaitlin overtime, in a 4–3 victory against the New York Islanders on November 12.

McDavid then went 1-1-2 (along with another overtime assist), scoring at 2:44 of the second period to become the 99th player in league history to record 1,000 points, in a 3-2 triumph over the Nashville Predators on November 14. He added 1-1-2, including an assist on the tying goal with 1:29 left in regulation, in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 16.

McDavid, a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner, four-time Ted Lindsay Award winner and three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner, ranks third in NHL history (minimum: 100 games) with 1.52 points per game in during his career (342-661-1,003 in 660 matches), behind Wayne Gretzky (1,92) et Mario Lemieux (1.88). He has notably scored 7-14-21 in 15 appearances this season, including 4-7-11 during a four-goal, multi-point streak dating back to November 9.

Marchment had three multi-point performances in as many games, leading the NHL in goals (t-4), assists (t-5) and points (9) as the Stars (11-5-0, 22 points) completed a perfect week. He recorded 1-4-5, including a record four points in the first period (1-3-4), in a 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 11.

Marchment then went 1-1-2 in a 7-2 triumph over the Boston Bruins on November 14 before finishing the week with both of Dallas’ goals, highlighted by his ninth career goal, in a 2-1 win. 1 against the Minnesota Wild on November 16.

Marchment, 29, who set career highs in goals (22), assists (31) and points (53) in 2023/24 (81 games), ranks second on the Stars with a record 6-11-17 in 15 outings this season. He is, along with McDavid, one of 44 NHL players (minimum: 10 games) who are averaging at least one point per game in 2024/25.

Vasilevskiy became the fastest goaltender in League history to reach 300 wins (490 games), with a 2-0-0 record, a 0.50 goals-against average, a .981 save percentage and a shutout, as the Lightning (9-6-1, 19 points) won both games. Vasilevskiy got his record victory by stifling the NHL’s best team, the Winnipeg Jets (who entered the game with one loss in their first 16 games of the season), making 23 saves in a 4- 1 on November 14.

He then produced an impeccable 29-save performance for his 36th career shutout in a 4–0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on November 16. Vasilevskiy, 30, who won the Vezina Trophy in 2018/19, is 8-5-1 in 14 appearances in 2024/25, ranking in the top 10 in the League (minimum: 7 GP) for shutouts (t-2nd; 2), goals against average (3rd; 2.15) and save percentage (7th; 0.920).
