The devils are unstoppable. New Jersey garnered its ninth straight NHL win and its 12th in 15 games this season as it beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-2 thanks to its Swiss trio. It was also Akira Schmid’s first tenure of the season in the Devils’ Cage.
Akira Schmid was credited with 16 saves in a game his team dominated. The 22-year-old from Bern, who had made 7 saves as a substitute for Vitek Vanecek 2 days earlier against Ottawa, got the 3rd star.
Jonas Siegenthaler for his part managed 1 assist on the 3-2 set by Jesper Boqvist (52nd), 3 minutes after the Coyotes had tied it at 2-2 (with 1 assist from Janis Moser in key). As for captain Nico Hischier, he also made 1 assist, opening Tomas Tatar’s Devils score in the 7th.
The Valais center (17 points in 14 games) has scored at least 1 point in the last 7 games. He is one of the great architects of the fabulous series of the Devils, which did not get 9 consecutive hits since the fall of 2007. New Jersey also won the 11 games in which Nico Hischier scored at least 1 point.
