Goaltender Matt Murray signed a rookie contract with the Dallas Stars a few days ago. A relative of the legendary hockey goalkeeper Vladimír Dzuril appeared in the list of “stars” earlier this month, but has not yet entered the group of overseas professional league matches.
According to the information New time the 24-year-old goalkeeper was born three years after the death of the legendary Vladimír Dzuril. The famous goalkeeper, after whom one of Bratislava’s winter stadiums is named, had no sons.
“Of course, I know all the family relationships from the stories of my grandfather and my mother. Vlado was my great-uncle. Too bad I didn’t have the chance to meet him” Matt Murray answered questions from New Time.
During his brief tenure in Dallas’ first team, a relative of Vladimír Dzuril also met the Slovakian striker Marian Studenich. She surprised him during the team dinner when she wished him bon appétit.
Matt Murray has developed a promising career outside of school. He played 130 games for the Massachusetts varsity team, of which he won 83 times. In Canada’s representative shirt, he won the unofficial title of under-19 world champion.
He is not in much contact with his family in Slovakia. The exception was his grandfather Ľubomír, brother of Vladimír Dzurilla, who died six years ago.
“I’m not in touch with anyone living in Slovakia, but I had a very close relationship with my grandfather Ľubomír until he left us forever six years ago”, admitted Matt Murray for New time.
Matt Murray signed a one-year rookie deal with Dallas worth US$750,000, then joined the first team for a few games, but didn’t play and returned to the farm in Texas.
