It was a depressing Olympic end in Beijing with 0-4 in the back against Slovakia in the bronze match.
In just over a month, Tre Kronor will have a chance for revenge when the Ice Hockey World Cup begins in Helsinki and Tampere in Finland – and probably with a team with a real star shine.
Both Erik Karlsson, San José, and Lucas Raymond, Detroit, have previously announced that they are positive about running – and now Rasmus Dahlin also announces that there is no doubt that he would be asked by national team captain Johan Garpenlöv.
– Very hungry. If I get the question and the chance, I will take the first flight to Finland, he says to Viaplay.
With nine goals and 34 assists on the account after 67 games, the 21-year-old is heading towards his clearly highest-scoring season in the NHL since he strengthened the Buffalo Sabers 2018 as draft pick.
In the national team context, there have been two JVM and one Olympics in Pyeongchang as a 17-year-old. However, there has never been a world championship at senior level.
– It would have been a World Cup debut for me, so that only means a lot. Then to also be able to compete for a gold medal with Sweden would be absolutely incredible. The last time I played in front of Swedish fans was probably JVM, so you have definitely missed that feeling. It means a lot to me. I’m really hungry, says Dahlin.
It is already clear that the Swede will be available because the Buffalo Sabers miss the NHL’s playoffs Stanley Cup, this despite a strong period in recent times when the team has started to win more and more.
– It’s damn fun. We have come together as a team and found a way to turn matches around. We have found our game but the big part is that we have come together as a team. We are fighting out there on the ice, and that is what has made the success, says Dahlin.
The Hockey World Cup will be played on May 13-29 and will be Johan Garpenlöv’s last championship as Swedish national team captain.
