NHL: Spitting scandal by K’Andre Miller

It couldn’t be more disgusting.

In his New York Rangers’ 5-2 home win over the Los Angeles Kings, K’Andre Miller forgot himself and spat in his opponent Drew Doughty’s face.

The scene happened during a scuffle between several players when there were still a good three minutes to play in the first period. The hosts were already 1-0 up at that point thanks to a goal by Alexis Lafrenière (14′).

The referees watched the scene on the monitor a number of times and concluded that the Rangers defender’s spook attack was intentional. The result was a match penalty.

Victim Doughty was still served by the action after the game. “A pretty big snot landed on my face. That’s why I was so angry,” said the Kings defender.

However, Rangers coach Gerard Gallant put himself in front of his player. “He feels bad about it,” said the 59-year-old, adding, “It says it wasn’t on purpose.”

The culprit himself has now also spoken up via Twitter and spoken of an “accident”.

The question now is how long Miller will be suspended by the NHL for this incident. Then-Washington forward Garnet Hathaway received a 3-game penalty in 2019 for a similar incident.
