National Hockey League Commissioner Gary bettman confirmed that the season of the National Hockey League, suspended due to coronavirus, will be resumed. The exact timing of the resumption of the season remains unknown, training camps will begin no earlier than July.
The regular season is ahead of schedule. 24 teams will play in the playoffs, having the highest percentage of victories at the time of stopping the regular season. Thus, the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabers, New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks do not qualify for the Stanley Cup .
The four best clubs from each conference will play among themselves three matches in a round robin format. These matches will allow clubs to change the seeding number in the playoffs. The remaining teams, parallel to the round-robin tournament, will hold a series of up to three victories. The winners of these series will fall into the first round of the playoffs for the first four seeded teams of their conferences, then the Stanley Cup will continue in the usual format.
