NHL: Sabers lose 5-2 to Islanders, lose 7th straight game

Sunday, March 7, 2021. 2:29 PM

Brock Nelson scored twice, helping the New York Islanders to a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabers on Sunday afternoon.

The Isles thus extend the ordeal of the Sabers, who have conceded six consecutive defeats in regulation time and their seventh in a row by adding that suffered in overtime at the start of their unsuccessful streak.

With a 14th loss in regulation in 23 games, Buffalo (6-14-3) is last in the East Division, one point behind the New Jersey Devils, but with three games less to go.

Since Thursday, the Sabers have suffered three straight losses by the same score of 5-2 against their rivals Long Island.

After Anders Lee, Nelson and Casey Cizikas scored to give the Isles a 3-0 priority, the Sabers showed life as they came close to one goal, thanks to Jeff Skinner and Collin Miller.

In Skinner’s case, this was a very first net in 2021.

Except that Cal Clutterbuck scored three minutes after Miller to deal a heavy blow to the visitors. Nelson then completed the mark with just over two minutes to go in the final third.

The victory went to the record of Ilya Sorokin, who made 24 saves.

Sorokin, a 25-year-old goaltender, posted his fourth win of the season to lift the Islanders to 10-0-2 this season at the Nassau Coliseum.

Barry Trotz’s squad are having a great time, having won each of their last five games to lead their division, four points ahead of the Washington Capitals and five ahead of the Boston Bruins, who have some games in hand.
