There’s still a lot of water to flow under the bridge between now and the March 7 trade deadline, but there’s already reportedly interest in Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Ivan Provorov.
Our collaborator Pierre LeBrun reported on the airwaves of TSN that the Blue Jackets would be looking for a first-round pick in return for his services, as soon as the team decides to trade him.
Provorov is in his second season with the Blue Jackets, after being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers in the summer of 2023. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign and his salary only counts for $4.725 million on the payroll, given that it accounts for $2 million of that of the Los Angeles Kings, the third team involved in the transaction at the time.
The 27-year-old guard has scored 1 goal and collected 5 assists in 19 games since the start of the season and plays an average of 23:50 per game, the 2nd highest average on the club behind Zach Werenski (25:45).
Provorov was drafted 7th overall by the Flyers in 2015. He has 71 goals and 184 assists in 633 games since the start of his career.
The Blue Jackets are in 6th place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 8-9-2. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2020.
