The Pittsburgh Penguins are slowly saying something about the leadership in the East Division of the NHL.
They beat the New York Islanders 6: 3 – their third win in a row – and move up to within two points of the Isles, which are tied behind the Washington Capitals. However, the Caps played two games less.
The pens rush away to 5-0 within 28:21 minutes before Barzal (31st), Beauvillier (46th) and Eberle (58th) make the result showable. Rust does his hat trick with the Empty Netter (60th) after he has already scored twice within 123 seconds (27./PP, 29th). Crosby comes up with a goal and an assist.
Things are getting tight in the Central Division: The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 away and move up to one point on the leader, with one more game to play. The decision is made by Necas (57./PP), who has a total of two goals and two assists.
Behind them, the Nashville Predators come within two points thanks to a 3-1 in a direct duel with the Chicago Blackhawks, who occupy the last playoff place.
The Florida Panthers extend their lead over the duo as third with a 4-3 overtime win over the Dallas Stars to nine points, while the Lightning are four points short. Verhaege scores the first three Panthers goals, Ekblad makes the decision ten seconds before the end of extra time.
Coyotes close to the playoff place
The Toronto Maple Leafs put some air between them in the North Division and the Winnipeg Jets, who lose 4-2 at the Calgary Flames. They beat the Edmonton Oilers 4: 3 thanks to a Matthews hit 54 seconds after the start of overtime and thus have two points well on Winnipeg and one game less.
A cauldron hat-trick leads the Arizona Coyotes to 4-0 over the San Jose Sharks, with five points from the last three games the Yotes are suddenly level with the St. Louis Blues (one game less), who played the last playoff – Place in the West but lost all of their last three games.
