NHL: Pittsburgh back on winning ways after two defeats – winter sports

In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins (35-15-9) clearly beat the Vegas Golden Knights (32-24-4) 5-2 and celebrate their first success after two losses in a row.

Shortly before the end of the first period, Mike Matheson gave his Penguins a deserved 1-0 lead (19th). The template comes from Sidney Crosby, the captain recorded at least one scorer point in the eighth game in a row.

After Jeff Carter extended the lead in the 23rd minute, the Golden Knights equalized with goals from Jack Eichel (25th) and Alex Pietrangelo (29th).

The last section, which Pittsburgh won 3-0, will be decisive. Mark Friedman (44th), Bryan Rust (55th / PP) and Evan Rodrigues (58th / EN) ensure the 5:2 final score. Defender Kris Letang reaches 50 points (six goals, 44 assists) in 55 games this season with his empty-net assist.

In the Metropolitan Division table, Pittsburgh climbs back to second place with 79 points in 59 games.

The Washington Capitals (32-18-10) around Alex Ovechkin defeat the Vancouver Canucks (29-23-7) 4:3 in overtime.

Evgeny Kuznetsov scores a hat trick for the Capitals (6th, 7th/PP, 56th/PP) and shoots his team into overtime with his last goal. Because Quinn Hughes (41st) and Bo Horvat (44th / PP, 46th) meanwhile bring the Canucks 3: 2 in front.

In overtime, it took just 42 seconds for Lars Eller to score Washington’s winning goal.

The New York Islanders (23-24-8) beat the Winnipeg Jets (29-23-10) 5-2. Brock Nelson scored in the 7th minute on a power play to make it 1-0 for the Islanders, Kyle Connor equalized before the break (17th). Josh Bailey (42′, 48′) puts together a brace for the New Yorkers, and Anders Lee (42′) and Cal Clutterbuck (56′) also score.

The interim 2: 3 from the point of view of the Jets by Blake Wheeler (41st) is not enough. Barrydios, current Islanders head coach, celebrates his 900th NHL victory.

Marco Rossi’s Minnesota Wild (34-19-4), for whom the Austrian is not in the line-up, are beaten 2-3 in the shootout by the Columbus Blue Jackets (29-27-3).

Kirill Kaprizov (20th / PP) makes up for the 0:1 deficit through Yegor Chinakhov (14th / PP) a few seconds before the break. After Mats Zuccarello (34′) made it 2-1, it looked like the Wild would win until 32 seconds before the end of the game, but Zach Wewnski (60′) put his team into overtime. There are no goals in this one, in the penalty shootout Chinakhov is the only shooter who scores.
