MacKinnon has scored 21 points (6+15) during his ongoing streak, which is the longest active streak in the NHL right now. He has also scored in every home game Colorado has played so far; 9 goals and 19 assists in 15 games.
Jared Bednar says, however, that MacKinnon hasn’t been completely satisfied with his game at the moment. But that hard work and patience made it turn around game-wise.
– When a player goes through something he calls a slump – and then he still averaged over a point per game but was not happy with the way he played, the way his chain played – they played and worked together and now they have reached the other side, says Bednar.
– Sometimes bad habits can creep into a player’s game, and it can take some time for the good ones to pay off. They worked on it for a long time before it came off for them and now they have a good feeling. “Confidence and just playing tight and doing things right leads to good things for them,” Bednar said.
MacKinnon is probably out of the so-called slump always. He became the fifth fastest active player to reach 800 points behind Connor McDavid (545 games), Sidney Crosby (571 games), Ovechkin (658 games) and Evgeni Malkin (680 games).
Malkin could extend his on Saturday when the Avalanche face the Winnipeg Jets on the road.
