The New York Rangers averted an early season end in the NHL and forced a crucial seventh game in the second round series against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Rangers won the sixth game of the best-of-seven series 5-2 (2-0, 2-2, 1-0) at home and equalized the series to 3-3. On Monday (local time) the last duel will decide which team will move into the playoff semi-finals of the North American ice hockey league.

In the first round against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Rangers had to catch up in their decisive games, against the Hurricanes the team from New York was on course for victory early on: After ten minutes the Rangers were 2-0 up, Filip Chytil raised at the beginning of the second third to 3:0. The 22-year-old Czech international took the lead 4-1 with his second goal in the same period.
In the series between the Rangers and the Hurriances, every team has won their home games so far. An advantage for Carolina, who can play the seventh duel at home in Raleigh.
