NHL: New York Rangers fire head coach David Quinn

New York Rangers president Chris Drury has fired head coach David Quinn.

His assistants Jacques Martin, David Oliver and Greg Brown were also dismissed, while goaltending coach Benoît Allaire retains his position.

The New York Post, which first reported the news, points out that Drury would like to replace Quinn with an experienced NHL coach. Gerard Gallant, Rick Tocchet, Bob Hartley, John Tortorella, Mike Babcock and Patrick Roy are said to be among the first candidates.

In three years at the helm of the Rangers, Quinn was 96-87-25.

On May 5, the Rangers fired their president John Davidson and their general manager Jeff Gorton and appointed Chris Drury as president and general manager.
