NHL: Nashville is stopped by Ovechkin

Thursday, November 7, 2024, 5:16 a.m. – Stephan Häfliger

Chicago is having a tough time at home and Ovechkin ruins the evening for Nashville. Akira Schmid is again the substitute goalkeeper.

The Blackhawks are struggling to get a win at home. In the 5th home game they suffered their 4th defeat against the Detroit Red Wings. Nick Foligno scored the only goal for the home team in the middle third to make it 1-1, after which Detroit took over and won the game 4-1. Philipp Kurashev had one shot on goal, 17:06 of ice time and a -2 record. After a trip to the Dallas Stars on Friday night, the Hawks’ next home game is on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.

The Nashville Predators tried with a lot of effort to find their way to victory in Washington. The Predators took the lead in the first third and were able to tie the score at 2-2 with Steven Stamkos in the second third, but Ovechkin secured the victory for the Capitals in the final third with his 6th goal in the 5th game. The 39-year-old striker is just 34 goals shy of breaking Gretzky’s record. Josi had 25:14 playing time, 4 shots on goal and a balanced balance. On Friday night, the Preds will play against the defending Stanley Cup winners Florida Panthers in Sunrise.

Akira Schmid was once again the backup in the Vegas Golden Knights’ 4-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers. Since Ilya Samsonov is not traveling with the team, Schmid could play in Seattle on Saturday night.

Results:

Washington Capitals – Nashville Predators (mit Josi) 3:2

Chicago Blackhawks (mit Kurashev) – Detroit Red Wings 1:4

Edmonton Oilers – Vegas Golden Knights (Schmid Ersatz) 2:4
