NHL: Maple Leafs acquire veteran goaltender Carter Hutton

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Carter Hutton from the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.

The transaction was announced in the evening, during the meeting between the Torontonians and the Montreal Canadiens.

The Coyotes got future consideration for the services of the 36-year-old veteran goaltender.

Injured early in the season, Hutton had just three starts in his first season with the Arizona squad.

He has played 234 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabers and Coyotes.

Hutton will join a pair of goalkeepers made up of Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek at the Leafs.

Recently on waivers, Hutton could be sent directly to the American Hockey League. According to Pierre LeBrun of the AthleticHutton will remain in Tucson, home of the Roadrunners in the AHL, for the time being, but he could join the Leafs club if necessary.

Dzingel only passed through Toronto

Ryan Dzingel ultimately did not wear the Maple Leafs uniform.

Acquired from the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday by the Canadian squad, the 29-year-old forward was claimed on waivers Monday by the San Jose Sharks.

Dzingel was part of the deal that also sent defender Ilya Lyubushkin to the Leafs and especially to get rid of Nick Ritchie’s contract. The Leafs put his name on waivers on Sunday and if he hadn’t been claimed, he would have joined the Toronto Marlies in the AHL.

This season, the former 2011 seventh-round pick of the Ottawa Senators had four goals and three assists in 26 games with Arizona. He has also worn the colors of the Senators, the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes since the start of his career.

The Sharks are seventh in the Pacific Division with 49 points in as many games this season. They have suffered six straight losses.
