ICE HOCKEY ⋅ Nico Hischier confirms his good form again. The Valaisian was instrumental in the New Jersey Devils’ 6-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins with one goal and two assists.
The Devils made things clear early on. They were already 3-0 up after just under seven minutes. Hischier set up Jesper Bratt’s first goal. He was also the passer in the middle of the second period when Damon Severson made it 5-1 on the power play. In the third period, the Valaisian, also in the majority, scored the final result with his 14th goal of the season. Hischier collected part of his now 33 scorer points in five of the last six games.
Roman Josi and Dean Kukan were among the winners of the evening. Josi, who went away empty-handed for the first time after six games with personal success, won with the Nashville Predators at home against the Dallas Stars 2-1 after a penalty shoot-out. The Bernese failed with his attempt in the short decision.
Kukan continued his winning streak with Columbus. The 6-3 win at the Florida Panthers was the Blue Jackets’ fourth straight win. The Zurich defender was one of the preparers for Oliver Bjorkstrand’s last goal.
Kevin Fiala was also ahead with Minnesota at the Toronto Maple Leafs for the time being. The St. Galler was an assistant in the 1-0 lead by Frederick Gaudreau in the middle of the second period. In the end, however, the Wild had to leave the ice as 1:3 losers. (sda)
