Both Kulich and Rousek watched the opening duel of the new NHL season on Friday night, in which Buffalo lost to the Devils with Czech forward Ondřej Palát 1:4, right from the stands. However, Ruff admitted to possible changes.
“Both players had a successful training camp. Maybe one of them will be in the line-up today,” replied the experienced coach when asked if the Czech attackers would have a chance to prove themselves in front of the home crowd.
Ruff did not say who he would choose to celebrate. If Kulich gets priority, he will play his second game in an elite tournament in the Czech capital. The 20-year-old center made his debut last year on November 25, coincidentally against New Jersey. He didn’t score in nearly 15 minutes on the ice.
Rousek, who is twenty-five years old, has a lot more experience. Over the last two seasons, he has 17 starts and four points per goal and three assists. Until now, the last time he started before the middle of April was on the Florida ice.
Ruff believes that his team will appear in a better light than on Friday, when the Sabers went behind the juice in the opening 40 minutes not only in terms of results (0:3), but also in terms of play. “But you also have to see that before they scored the first time, we had three good scoring chances there. But then we made a mistake and the puck ended up in our goal,” Ruff recalled.
