National Hockey League (NHL) Florida Panthers head coach Paul Morris has revealed that Latvian defender Uvis Balinskis will return to the squad in the upcoming night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Balinski, who is in his NHL debut, became the Panthers’ first surplus defenseman after Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour returned to the lineup. After missing three games, the Latvian will have the opportunity to prove himself again. Balinskis will replace Dmitry Kulikov in the team.
“We took Uvi out of the lineup – he definitely didn’t deserve it, neither did anyone else. Dmitriy doesn’t deserve to lose his place in the lineup either, but I will soon have eight NHL defensemen at my disposal,” said Morris. “I don’t want to “pull” the players, but I couldn’t allow Uvis to be on the sidelines for so long. He should have played.”
For 27 years, Balinskis has so far played 14 games as part of the “Panthers”, in which he spent an average of 13 minutes and 58 seconds on the field, distinguished himself with a goal, an assist and a positive utility +2.
The game between “Panthers” and “Jets” is scheduled for 3:00 Latvian time.
More from Maurice:
“I won’t come out and say I’m going to platoon them, because I won’t. But I am going to work real hard to make sure a guy doesn’t sit out too long. I also don’t want to be jerking guys in and out of the lineup. Uvis needed to play soon.”
