Boston hockey players capped their home TD Garden scoring streak in the current season to twenty consecutive games. Another Czech forward, Martin Nečas, helped Carolina win Pittsburgh with a goal.
Pastrňák was on the ice for both conceded goals scored by Mark Scheifele and Jansen Harkins in the first eight minutes. Following the Czech forward’s actions, Boston equalized at mid-quarter.
Pastrňák first ducked after a lucky rebound, after which the puck reached him from the rear between the hoops in front of an empty goal. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Connor Hellebuyck went behind goal to help defenders process the puck and did not come back. He scored the second point on the power play when Jake DeBrusk headed his sharp pass into the net. Pastrňák improved his record to 22 goals and 23 assists.
The match was decided by Nick Foligno at 51:08 with a shot from the ring. Boston thus became the tenth team in NHL history to score in each of their first twenty home games of the season. Eighteen of those ended in a Bruins victory.
In Pittsburgh, the first three goals of the game came in the 18th minute in a span of 32 seconds. Sidney Crosby opened the scoring, but Nečas responded quickly, promptly sending the puck into an open goal. His teammate Jalen Chatfield quickly scored Carolina’s second goal, but the hosts turned the game around with strikes from Brock McGinn and Bryan Rust. Jordan Staal sent the game into extra time in the 56th minute, which was stopped by Jaccob Slavin after just 23 seconds.
