On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, two Slovaks unexpectedly jumped into action in the overseas NHL. Pavol Regenda, who was quickly withdrawn from the San Diego Gulls farm in AHL by the Anaheim Ducks, has joined traditional Washington Capitals support Martin Fehérváry.
And it was Pavol Regenda who finally became the main Slovak star of the night, when he scored his first NHL goal and was also announced as the second star of the match. However, he also did not prevent a 1: 4 loss to the Minnesota Wild. 18-year-old Slovakian Juraj Slafkovský is serving a suspension for Wednesday’s foul on Detroit Red Wings player Matt Luff, so he did not play in Thursday’s winning game against the Vancouver Canucks (5: 2). The Washington Capitals also suffered their ninth defeat (out of 15 games) to Martin Fehérváry. This time the capital club was not enough for the Pittsburgh Penguins (1: 4).
Our defender Martin Fehervary played 22:40 minutes in the match without success, including 6 seconds in overtime, and fell into weakness by 2:21 minutes. He went on the ice in the second defensive pair together with his traditional “partner” Nick Jensen. In the match he scored 2 shots on goal, 2 points and three blocked attempts.
The Slovakian forward celebrated his unexpected return to the first team Paolo Regenda immediately and with a precise intervention. In the game against the Minnesota Wild, he scored the only goal of the “ducks” when he caught a Frank Vatran pass between the hoops and passed the goalkeeper. Coach Dallas Eakins placed him in the fourth lineup with Glenn Gawdin and Brett Leason. In the sixth game in the NHL, Pavol Regonda spent 8:56 minutes on the ice. In addition to a shot, which ended up on goal and therefore also a Canadian point and a “plus” in the +/- points statistics, he also recorded a blocked attempt. After the game, he was declared the second star of the game and thus also the best player of the Anaheim Ducks. Pavol Regenda returned to the first team relatively quickly. According to the club’s explanation, Adam Henrique, who was giving birth to his first child with his wife Lauren at the time of the match, would make room for him.
