NGO offices in Guatemala raided due to possible “child trafficking”

Guatemala. The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity (FECI) of Guatemala today reported the raid on a non-governmental organization (ON), without specifying the name, for possible trafficking of minors.

The head of that entity of the Public Ministry (MP), Rafael Curruchiche, explained that the operation is due to “a transnational investigation that covers actions that could be related to violations and abuses against children.”

This, in coordination with the National Civil Police and in follow-up to a complaint filed, he noted, while adding that they requested support from the Prosecutor’s Office of Texas, United States, to join forces and comprehensively address the matter.

Curruchiche reiterated, on behalf of the MP, the strong and firm commitment to fight for Guatemalan children and not allow under any circumstances that their rights be violated.

Images on social networks spread by national media showed that these are the offices in this capital of Save the Children, whose purpose is to work for children’s rights.

This NGO arrived in the country with the 1976 earthquake, providing humanitarian assistance to affected children and families.

In 1983 it was permanently established and, together with the Government, civil society and local authorities, helped vulnerable children in Guatemala.
