President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) Speech which promotes roast pork (bipang) Ambawang heavily criticized. Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Ali Mochtar Ngabalin admitted he was surprised what was wrong with the speech.
“He is the president of Indonesia, if he then introduces, for example, rich in bipang, what’s wrong? That’s the president of Indonesia, the president of all Indonesian people from Catholics, Protestants, Hindus, Confucian Buddhism, other faiths, indeed bipang is typical of local Borneo, but “It’s not for Muslims, it’s food, it’s a local product, what’s wrong with making a fuss,” said Ngabalin, to reporters, Saturday (8/5/2021).
Ngabalin explained the context of Jokowi saying things like that to invite people to be proud of Indonesian local products. Although not all people eat this typical Indonesian food.
“Yesterday the president also issued a proud statement about domestic products. Those are the favorite products even in certain circles. Not all can eat goat guling, certain people don’t like it but Muslims like it. In Karo there is roast pork but not all of them. not necessarily the Muslims there eat, “he said.
Regarding the Eid al-Fitr moment, Ngabalin said that all people of all religions took part in the holiday even though some did not celebrate. According to him, the homecoming tradition in Eid is felt by all religious people. So that according to him, souvenirs are aimed at all religions.
“So the point is, looking at the context, don’t jump to conclusions, if it is related to the homecoming problem, it is only Muslims who go home. My maid is not a Muslim, she goes home too, returns to her village because of the momentum of her chance to return home. There is no problem,” he said.
“Of course we understand that if he mentions Bipang Ambawang, it is definitely not for Muslims, it is definitely for this tribal group, this religion, this religion, why is it so noisy, forgive me,” he continued.
Ngabalin asked the public to understand the sentence as a whole. So it is not easy to associate a statement with religion.
“People have discussed going up on Mars, Jupiter, there we are still going back and forth, pulling this matter to religion, it’s pulling to religion, really,” he said.
